Stranded in my wheelchair
Day in and day out
Everything seems so dull
The children shout and play
In the street outside
Suddenly, my mind is made up -
I must try to walk

I stand up, and the pain rips
Up and down my spine
My first step seems a revelation
And then my face hits the floor

The incredible joy of taking
The first step of my life
Fills my heart with happiness and pride
For the first time
Something in my life has gone right

No more doctors
No more nurses
And best of all
No more wheelchair ...
I am a new person
