Hazards of recorded history …

John Gruber calls it “Claim Chowder” where someone predicts something in the future that is shown as completely wrong, as the future catches up to those claims.

As I’m going through my 900+ blog entries to make sure internal links are working, and having a good chuckle at the expense of myself (after all, what’s not funny about making an ass of yourself?), I do find the occasional entry that stops me in my tracks.

For instance, this entry from 2007, before Joost van der Westhuizen divorced his wife and was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). In the article I linked to, he was participating in a scam to do with mineral water that could allegedly repair DNA and slow the ageing process.

It’s sad because he was taken in by this scam, and I mocked him for it. Now that he’s probably going to die in the next five years from ALS, I feel kind of guilty for making fun of him. It’s claim chowder, sure, but it’s also some guy’s life we’re talking about.

It makes you think.

Danny Glover is a tomcruise

“Tomcruise” is my word for “dumbass”, because Tom Cruise exemplified the term when he jumped on Oprah’s couch, said he would eat the placenta, and then backed out. They might all have been called “dannyglovers” if he had eaten the placenta.

Anyway, Danny Glover is almost as ignorant as Pat Robertson. The latter said that Haiti was hit by this devastating earthquake because they “swore a pact to the devil”. Yes, really.

Now Danny Glover, who I was a little worried about after seeing him in 2012, has decided he is a scientist now. He has said that Haiti was hit by this devastating earthquake because of climate change. Yes, really.

Danny Glover is my tomcruise for 2010. Yes, the whole year. Not even the most famous “older man in a cape”, Vitamin B-16, comes close.

Tomcruise of the Month

One article, one month, TEN ELEVENTY Tomcruises in one go. I must be in heaven. Here they are in article order:

Joost van der Westhuizen
Amor Vittone
Gert van der Merwe
Wilma van der Bijl
Tanya Fourie
Josie Borain
Kerry McGregor
Kim McGregor
Tracy McGregor
Malcolm Kluk
Reuben Riffel

The reason why? Latest anti-aging “research” has “shown” that “mineral water” can repair “DNA”.

A colleague at work suggested the water may come from Koeberg or Pelindaba.

Check out the related link.

Tom Cruise is a sick, sick man

According to Ananova.com, Tom Cruise has declared that he will be eating the placenta of his child when Katie Holmes gives birth to it (the child, not the placenta … oh, never mind!) later this year.

In other news, George Michael drove into three other vehicles when parking his 4×4. If only he’d driven over Tom Cruise.

What kind of a stupid name is “Tom Cruise” anyway? Prat.

If I were God, this would be me with Tom Cruise:

Tomcruise of the Month

What a load of nonsense! I had to generate a new blog entry to get this off my chest. Some monkey who claims to be a consultant has labelled the World Community Grid project a potential “powerful cyber-terror weapon”. The article can by found here. He reckons that if “hackers manage to penetrate the super-network”, it could be used for “sinister purposes”.

This man is smoking his socks. He’s clearly never heard of SETI@home, BOINC or Google Compute. And of course he seems to forget that Microsoft Windows is able to perform mass denial of service attacks at any given time. Give me a break, “consultant”. If you want to add anything useful, try recommending that people install the latest firewall, spyware and antivirus software on their computers instead of wasting my time.

I’m nominating Ian Melamed from Shaya Technologies as my Tomcruise of the Month.

Update (2006/03/30 09:30): I guess Ian Melamed feels like a bit of a twat right now. No cyber-terror weapon this side of the timeline.

Update (2006/04/26 13:28): Still no cyber-terror weapon this side of the timeline. I’ve also renamed him from dumbass to tomcruise, but you’ll have to read this to understand why.

Update (2007/03/24 22:57): Still no cyber-terror weapon.

Update (2008/12/30 23:43): Still no cyber-terror weapon, although in fairness, it’s only been four years since it was suggested.

Update (2009/05/01 14:50): Still no cyber-terror weapon.

Update (2011/06/01 19:25): Still no cyber-terror weapon. And even the PlayStation Network hack was done from Amazon EC2 through a proxy, but not the World Community Grid!

Update (2011/12/20 22:09): Still no cyber-terror weapon.
