In 1997 (which is English for “a very long time ago”), I was watching television, and lo and behold, the continuity announcer mentioned a film that would be screened the following Saturday, called Topkapi. If only because it was about a jewellery heist, I would not have watched, but the announcer also mentioned Peter Ustinov’s Oscar-winning performance, so I was hooked.

Naturally, when Saturday arrived, I watched and was enthralled by the film, and decided that I was changing my IRC nickname from The_Pope to Topkapi. That’s really it. Nothing more, nothing less. It doesn’t refer to my favourite sexual position, nor is it supposed to infer that I can speak Turkish. It’s nothing more than a very nifty sounding nickname.
